I was bored so I decided to mess around with the FOV & crosshair offset from the advanced options in the Cartographer GUI i.e. in Halo 2, not from a config file. I don't know what the values were when they started tho and I don't like guessing : P , I don't see an option to return to default.
What are the default FOV & crosshair offset values? Setting both to "Offset alteration disabled" and "FOV alteration disabled" don't seem to result in the default values. Toggling these on and off seems to yield FOV 100 and crosshair offset 0.165 these don't appear to be the values that I started at either when I test in game.

The offset is the same for both 4:3 and 16:9 with a larger field of view for 16:9; however my monitor is 16:10 -- would my values default to be the same as 16:9 or would they be different?

Yes, you're FOV would be different for 16:10, but I don't know how you'd calculate it for 16:10. I''d probably start with the 16:9 FOV of your choice and tweak it from there to see how you like it and post what you think works well. Remember you can press the home button and bring up the Cartographer menu in game for real time tweaking!

My settings after tweaking are FOV 80 and crosshair offset 0.136; I didn't realize I could tweak it without having to end the game and go back thru the menus lol--I did it the hard way. [edit] after further tweaking using the homekey in game I have arrived at the following values:
16:10 aspect ratio
FOV: 75; OFFSET: 0.108000
I realized that 4:3 could really be called
16:12 in which case 16:10 is slightly shorter for the same horizontal resolution, and 16:9 is the shortest
so I postulated that my FOV should be somewhat greater than that of 4:3 but less than that of 16:9
I ended up picking a valued in between that of the Xbox 16:9 FOV and PC 16:9 FOV
and for the offset I moved it around until it felt right : P
Hopefully this is indexed easily by the search bar so someone can find this to be useful : )
