it wont let me use my phone number to make an account, is there another way?

i tried to log on today and it told me it failed to connect, after restarts and reboots i decided to check online and it says i need xfinity to fix it possibly but it doesnt let me use my phone number so im wondering if servers r down or if its an issue on my end and if so how to fix it, thanks
