No. Halo 2 when it released in 2004 never had infection built into halo 2.

Project Cartographer, however adds zombies to halo 2. Host a team slayer game, call it zombies.
All players cannot have shields
No vehicles
No turrets
No weapons on map
No starting nades/nades on map
Friendly fire must be off.

And you need to port forward 1000 - 1008 UDP (1009 TCP IF you want to play on custom maps, you must first enable map downloading within the launcher)

It wasn't that it was unnecessary, rather it was outdated.
